Overview of the Functions of the Post
Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Head of Office and Representative to the United Republic of Tanzania, and the guidance and direct supervision of the Head of Education Sector, the Education Sector Assistant will provide support to the Education Sector, with a particular focus on resource mobilization and partnership development to strengthen the Sector’s programme portfolio and contribute to the sustainability and expansion of UNESCO’s education interventions in the United Republic of Tanzania.
The Education Sector Assistant will support the identification of funding opportunities and potential partners, contribute to the development of concept notes, project proposals and other resource mobilization materials. The incumbent will also provide programme, administrative support for activities under the Education Sector’s Regular Programme and Voluntary Contribution projects.
The Education Sector Assistant will work in close collaboration with Education Sector programme and project personnel and other staff of the Office to support resource mobilization efforts and the timely implementation of programme and project activities. The incumbent will apply and promote the principles of results-based management (RBM) in accordance with UNESCO rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Resource Mobilization and Partnership Support
Support the Education Sector in identifying funding opportunities and prospective partners aligned with UNESCO’s education priorities in the United Republic of Tanzania.
Conduct research of development partners, donors, foundations, private sector entities and other potential funding partners with an interest in education.
Maintain up-to-date information on potential funding opportunities, including relevant priorities, funding windows, application requirements and deadlines.
Contribute to the preparation and development of concept notes, project proposals, expressions of interest and other resource mobilization documents in response to identified opportunities.
Assist in the preparation of presentations, briefing notes, talking points and other materials to support engagement with development partners and prospective funding partners.
Support the preparation and organization of meetings and consultations with existing and prospective partners and follow up on agreed actions.
Support other resource mobilization and partnership development activities undertaken by the Education Sector, as required.
2. Programme Implementation and Administrative Support
Assist in the day-to-day implementation of Education Sector programmes and projects, including activities under the Regular Programme and Voluntary Contribution projects.
Assist in the preparation of programme and project documents, correspondence, background materials, presentations, briefing materials and other relevant documentation.
Support the organization of meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars and other Education Sector activities, including the preparation of agendas, participant documentation and minutes.
Make logistical arrangements required for the timely and effective implementation of programme and project activities.
Support arrangements for official missions, including travel bookings, security clearance, travel documentation, administrative requests and related follow-up.
Provide administrative and logistical support to consultants and other experts engaged in the implementation of Education Sector programmes and projects, including communication, contracts, agendas, visas and hotel reservations, as required.
3. Communication and Coordination
Assist in the preparation of background materials and information for discussions, presentations, meetings and briefing sessions.
Support the preparation of Education Sector meetings, partnership engagements and resource mobilization activities.
Assist in the preparation of communication and visibility materials related to Education Sector programmes and activities, including website articles, press summaries and other relevant communication content.
Perform any other duties and undertake other tasks as requested and assigned by the Head of Office.

Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Project Management or a related field.
Experience
Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional experience in programme or project development, resource mobilization, partnership support, programme coordination or related areas.
Skills and Competencies
Strong Good organizational and coordination skills.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct basic research and compile relevant information, including funding opportunities and potential partners.
Ability to assist in the preparation of concept notes, project proposals, presentations, briefing materials and other programme documentation.
Ability to support the organization of meetings, workshops and other programme activities.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and carry out assigned tasks within established deadlines.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Deliverables
Languages
Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in resource mobilization, proposal development or partnership development.
Familiarity with the education sector and development partner landscape in Tanzania.
Experience supporting education programmes or projects in Tanzania.
Familiarity with United Nations procedures and donor-funded project implementation would be an advantage.
Experience working with government institutions, development partners and international organizations.
Familiarity with results-based management.
Duration
The assignment will have a duration of three (3) months, from October to December 2026,
Remuneration
Maximum consultancy will be USD 1,800 per month excluding travel cost, if any, during the period.
