Thailand’s wellness tourism market is growing at roughly three times the global average, with Phuket capturing a disproportionate share

KAMLA, PHUKET, THAILAND, August 28, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Thailand's wellness tourism sector is expanding at approximately three times the global average, and the Thai island of Phuket has captured a disproportionate share of that growth, according to industry data and a new independent editorial resource tracking the market.

Thailand's wellness market grew from $38.8 billion in 2023 to $42.7 billion in 2024. In November, the Global Wellness Summit will mark its 20th anniversary at Angsana Laguna Phuket, bringing more than 600 delegates from over 30 countries to the island. Thai government projections place the direct economic impact of the event at a minimum of 300 million baht, with the wider wellness and health tourism sector expected to exceed 10 billion baht in economic value.

The summit's selection of Phuket over competing Asian destinations reflects a broader shift in how the island positions itself. Long known for high-volume beach tourism, Phuket has developed infrastructure across five distinct wellness segments: yoga and meditation retreats, Muay Thai training camps, detox and cleanse centers, fitness and body transformation programs, and a newer cluster of longevity and medical wellness clinics.

That final category is expanding fastest and remains the least documented. Clinics on the island now offer comprehensive biomarker panels, NAD+ infusion therapy, hormone optimization, and peptide therapy — services that in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia typically carry costs several times higher. Thailand's network of internationally accredited hospitals underpins the sector, and the Thai Ministry of Public Health has funded long-term projects to develop Phuket as a center for preventive and high-end health care aimed at international visitors.

The economic case for destinations is significant. International wellness travelers spend an average of $1,668 per trip, approximately 36 percent more than conventional tourists, and typically stay longer.

Documenting the sector independently has proven difficult. A substantial proportion of English-language content ranking for Phuket wellness searches is produced by operators and published as editorial, leaving international travelers with limited comparative information.
